Alpha Omega Race #2 Elementary & Middle Schools Series

It was an extremely hot and sunny day as our young competitors took the line of our second race of the Elementary and Middle School Cross Country Series at Miami Metro-Dade's Southridge Park. There was several exciting battles between runners, some with three plus years experience and first time racers.

Races were very exciting, especially in the Boys Minis (.82) of a mile.  Elijah Hibbert unattached from Broward won with a time of 5:59, just beating out Austin Foster from Coral Reef Montessorri at 6:05, followed with determination by 3rd place finisher Noah Richards, with a time of 8:08. Top female was six years old, Samantha Alexander at 7:50, both from Coral Reef Montessorri.

The one mile race which comprised boys and girls; third and fourth graders had a great showing and great performances, with winners; Eddyah Frye ran 7:26 taking charge of all the other girls in the field, as well as the first boy, Issac Hibbert who ran 7:49.

In the Boys Junior Varsity (1.77miles) last race, Syon Lewis was our winner at the Coach to FirstClass Invite, but this week he took second challenged by Joshua Diaz from Alpha Omega Elite Track Team; Times were Diaz -10:40, Lewis-10:43, 3rd- Micah Hibbert- 13:43, 4th- Tarig Robinson- 17:43.

Next up was Varsity and Open Runners. The Course contested was 2.1miles overall winner 12 years old John Sellars- 13:21, 2. Noah Hibbert-14:50, 3. Ramon Rojas- 16:31. On the girls, 1. Sophia Miguez- 14:20, 2. Kali Hezera- 15:20. 3. Alyssa Fraga 15:53.

Finally, we  were very excited because we had a heat of Masters Men that had children or grandchildren running that day, and they wanted to show that they still "had it". First place went to 57 years old, Trevor King-14:35, next was 51 years old, Joe Hazera - 15:33, and 3rd- 51 years old, Wayne Robinson- 16:13.

Powerade supplied  beneficial hydration for all the competitors which is important at all races.

Thank you South Florida, Families, Friends, for changing lives, and building character in our young student-athletes one race at a time.

CTFC CC ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL OPENER

Our First Annual South Florida Elementary and Middle Schools Cross Country Series kicked off this Sunday, Aug 28, 2011, at Amelia Earhart Park, Miami Dade County Parks and Recreation Regional.  Complete results and photos can be found on www.coachtofirstclass.org.  For those interested in the next upcoming events, visit: www.aoett.org.

Coach to FirstClass Invitational featured a wide range of race divisions.  The morning started at 8:00am with a .67mile Kindergarten, First and Second Grades and Concluded with a 4K or 2.49mile Seventh, Eigth and Open Divisions( ninth grade and up).  With music, finish line announcements and excitement, athletes of all levels arrived.  From first timers or grass roots participants, to veteran performers or elite status athletes, both alike had a fun time.

The Hibbert, The Diaz, The Miguez, The Ventura, and the Moraga's are all great examples of what we're trying to promote here!  All of these Families brought three or more siblings to make this a family tradition!  Each competed, medalled and placed Top in each of their divisions!

First graders Austin Foster and Bobby Hoel , from Coral Reef Montessori, both opening with their first race ever and finishing top ten overall!  Second Grader, Adam Magoulas, and returning runner from OLL, and Elijah Hibbert, both had an amazing opening Performance, placing first and second for the Boys Minis Division. Following, with the Boys Primary, Isaac Hibbert and Daniel Alexander quiet conquered the race as they too finished one and two.  Syon Lewis, Miami Milers, Joshua Diaz(AlphaOmega) and David Diaz(MSAS) also opened up strong and tough as the place top three for the Junior Varsity... On the Varsity Boys Side Noah Hibbert, Allen Ventura, and Peter Hernandez soared through the finish line in that particular order!

A few of Florida's leading female distance runners, Julia Montgomery, a multi sport Broward Star, placing 1st this past Sunday, and last year's All Catholic Conference CC State Champion Sofia Miguez lined up with other top female local and state runners, Kali Hazera, Alysaa Fraga, sisters Natalie Diaz and Oliva Diaz, to put on an amazing 4K opener!  Kayla Lewis (MSAS), Hanna Grene and Kate Moraga, all in Mini Females, too made an outstanding name for themselves as they crossed 1,2,3 as five and six year olds!  "This Series belongs to the Kids for the Kids", stated Tammy Foster-King. We encourage all Coaches, Schools, Parents and Community Organizations to register a sibling, relative, and/or a love one to one of these events, so they may be exposed to a healthy, positive, sports filled lifestyle, early!  Out of City Club Teams are encouraged to participate as well!  All Welcomed, All levels, lets make our quality of life better" concluded
Tammy King Foster, USATF FL VP and CC Youth Chair.  Register Today!  www.aoett.org

All participant received the following;
1. A well organized and challenging Miami Dade County Parks and Recreations cross country course, on grass and gravel, keeping our young children off the pavement;
2. Powerade supported two hydration stations, immediately providing the kids with active electrolyte refreshing drinks!  All participants, spectators and volunteers were WOWed!
3. Savedoff Chiropractor Center informed the audience the importance of living a healthy style, and the affects of keeping the spine aligned.
4. Jerry and Joes Pizza, arrive just in time, to promote a Cross Country pizza party!  Each child got a free slice, even some parents were treated!
5. Last but not least, TOP 10 FINISHERS in every age category and gender difference received a medal for their amazing participation and or performance.

CTFC Summer Running Camp is Challenging yet FUN Overall!  The big idea is that we tap into, develop and create equalibrium within our systems through focusing on these seven factors: Speed, Endurance, Race Pace, Intervals, Overdistance, Up/Vertical, and Strength!  However, there too are many other factors that affect performance like Sleeping or Resting, Diet, and Emotional Stress!  Regardless, Everyone here has only given their best!

CTFC Summer Running Camp was a HUGE success!  It was a 13 week Running Camp Designed to Develop our Youth's Physical Abilities to Run.  Our focus today is ages 5-14, an age where play is critical yet we believe it has to be structured and related to exercise, not activity!

JOHN LUNA III, RIGHT, IS EMBRACED BY ADAM BUTLER AFTER THEY BOTH WORKED TOGETHER TO BETTER THEIR 800M TIME TRIAL!  JOHN LUNA III'S 3:05 PUTS HIM TOP FOR (11-12 AGE).  JOHN IS WK #11'S MVP, HIS REPORT CARD BELOW EXPLAINS WHY!!!!! CONGRATS JOHN!!!!

CONSISTENT, DEDICATED & DETERMINED TO MAKE RUNNING HIS, DAVID DIAZ, TOO, HAS ONLY DEMONSTRATED COURAGE.  IT IS SEEN WHEN HE PUSHES HIS BODY'S ABILITY, RIGHT TO HIS ANAEROBIC THRESHOLD(89-92%MAX EFFORT), AND HOLDS IT RIGHT THERE.  HIS ABILITY TO JUDGE HIS KICK FROM 250M OUT AND FINISH FLYING IS SOMETHING RARELY SEEN IN AN ATHLETE 10 & UNDER.  HE IS MEEK, A GREAT TEAM PLAYER AND COMPETITIVE!

HANNA MORAGA, HAS SLOWLY DEMONSTRATED WHAT IT IS TO MAKE SLOW STEADY GAINS WITH-IN HER TRAINING!  SHE DEMONSTRATES, FOCUS, EFFORT & IS EXTREMELY COMPETITVE!  SHE IS THE TYPE THAT WHEN SHE IS EXTREMELY TIRED, STOPPING OR WALKING IS NOT AN OPTION BUT SHE WILL JOG IT IN & FINISHES!  BUT WHEN HANNA IS PUT TO THE TEST...HMMM, THAT'S WERE SHE PUTS ALL THE PIECES OF THE PUZZLE TOGETHER AND PERFORMS WK#11 MVP!  IS SHE CONSISTENT?

REPORT CARDS TALK TOO ABOUT THIS YOUNG LADY, ELIZABETH.  HER CONSISTENTCY, DEDICATION, HARDWORK & SACRAFICE HAS SLOWLY TOO MOVED HER INTO THE TOP OF HER AGE GROUP.  SHE HAS BECOME VERY COMFORTABLE UNDERSTANDING WHAT IT IS TO GET OUT OF HER COMFORT ZONE AND SUSTAIN AND OUR REPORT SCREAM OF HER, COULD ALREADY BE ON PASS FOR NEXT WEEK'S AWARD!

IT WAS THE WEEK IN WHICH WE DID A 800M TIME TRIAL EACH ONE OF THE PRACTICE DAYS:TUES, THUR & SUN!  ALL OF THE RUNNERS TRIED THEIR BEST AND THAT IS WHAT I'M, COACH O, FOCUSING ON..."WHO IS TRYING THEIR BEST!

We ended the Week #10 Strong...visiting Vista View Park in Davie, FL!!!  Sunday, a day that we'll never forget, especially the kids!  Coach Diaz led the initial warmup stretch, followed by a 1.25mile loop run!  The hills served as a major challenge!  We hydrated and immediately moved into our workout: 8x 200m uphills, in groups of 4! Some parents wasted no time and hammered the uphill too!  Our morning concluded with hurdle drills and a fun hurdle challenge where everyone, boys, girls & parents participated! More Pictures Click Here!!

Ashley, Our Newest member, decided to train on Sunday!  After the long workout we decided to finish with hurdle drills.  A training activity that helps teach the body to bring the knees up will the body is tired!  As athlete's ran through the hurdles, they wrapped back around and repeated the same run through until someone forces a hurdle to stumble.  If a hurdle was dropped, the athlete was eliminated from the fun contest!  Similar to musical chairs!  Ashley and Natalie where the final two standing...hmmmm both females....?  Could it be that they could endure more fatigue...???  Ashley at the end had the edge!!!!!  She demonstrated the most focus, the ability to lift her knees despite the feeling of fatigue...a great indication of Champion!!!! Great Job Ashley...!!!!! Congrats!  Everyone was happy for you!!!!

With-in her first month, Kali Hazera has slowly moved her way to one of the top female runners with in CTFC!  Just 12 years old, Kali has not only worked hard, but she too enjoys doing it!  Last Thursday, after our 45min Hill workout, we decided to end with a challenge: "Sprinting up the Amelia Hill"!  It came down to Kali and Madison Butler!  Madison, another excellent athlete did not just hand over her title.  Both Kali and Madison tied 2 consecutive times before Kali pulled it off on the 3rd try!  Regardless, Odermatt was proud of all because the effort exerted after fatiguing the body is exactly what endurance is, performing when the body does not want too!!!!!

AMELIA EARHART PARK:  IT'S WEEK #9 AND IT'S CONSIDERED FRIEND'S WEEK.  A WEEK WHERE CURRENT MEMBER'S CAN INTRODUCE TO THEIR FRIENDS THEIR CLUB.  MOREOVER, MEMBERS THAT MISSED SOME DAYS DURING THE SUMMER WERE ENCOURAGED TOO TO TAKE ADVANTAGE AND TO MAKE UP MISSED DAYS!  WITH THAT SAID, 34 WERE AT HAND!  THINGS GOT A LITTLE OUT OF CONTROL HOWEVER AS SOON AS THE WHISTLE BLEW, TRAINING BEGAN!  WE DID A  800M WARM-UP, FUNCTIONAL WARM-UPS, SPEED & AGILITY DRILLS, HYDRATION BREAKS AND OUR TEAM/PARENT RELAY, AS OUR CLOSER!  ONLY SMILES AFTER!

MOST PARENTS DROP OFF THEIR KIDS AND STAY UNDER SHELTER ONE!  CTFC HAS ALWAY OPENED ITS DOORS TO PARENTS, HOWEVER I NEVER PUSHED THEM EITHER.  INSTEAD, I'VE ENCOURAGED THEM LITTLE BY LITTLE!  LATELY, PARENT'S ARE STEPPING UP TO THE CHALLENGE!  "EVERYONE IS AN ATHLETE, SOME JUST CHOOSE TO TRAIN!" MORE PICTURES, CLICK HERE!

It was Sunday Morning, and pulling into Barbara Goleman was an experience itself!  Packed House!  The typical Miami morning Heat, yet patches of light grey clouds gave it a pleasant hint in the air!  The day was planned like a Race.  You warmup, toe the line when your event is called then race!  Kids gave it their ALL!  Everyone ran one event and got an official 400m time:

Adam Butler continues to work hard, focus, eat and hydrate consistently and it showed on Sunday!  His understanding of distributing his energy wisely around the 400m showed when he shifted into his fastest gear with 90m to go, pulling away for the victory and record the day's fastest 400m in for Under 13 Boys!  David Diaz showing competitiveness and Damon Padron monitoring from behind!

Mom and Dads were out in their exercise attire, warming up, hydrating and involved in supporting were needed!  Until, they heard the first call of the parents categories!  Without a question, the majority put their toes on the line and went!  It was the perfect setting, the bright rubber dark orange track made the difference!  Parents striving for health!!!!

This Sunday, June 27, 2010, we will host our Practice at Barbara Goleman Sr. High!  It is located: 14100 NW 89 Avenue, Miami Lakes, Florida 33018. Please goggle the address to obtain directions!  We will meet a 7:30 am and we're scheduled for our official 400m and 800m Time Trial!

Monday, Vista View Park, Davie, Fl; 6pm!  The Hill in Davie, Fl, located on the Corner of Griffin Rd and I-75 is a hot spot when it comes to summer conditioning!  Athletes come from all areas of Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties!  The reason, the slopes!  The up/vertical and downhills add "flavor" to your training!  On the climb, your heart rate rises 10-20 more bpm on average, which develops or improves your anaerobic threshold.  On the downhills, you need focus, balance, coordination, and stability is needed, because of gravity's natural pull.  The fuel systems shift from aerobic to anaerobic and back, the muscular system "contracts & releases" and the nervous system absorbs the day's stress.  The ultimate benefit is when all systems work simoultaniously on the hill!  Make sure you are well hydrated!

Michael Vidal arrived to Vista View Park with one thing in mind, to jump into a 1.25 mile Time Trial.  The record was held by Ryan Davis, 6:21, from Pembroke Pines Charter in 2009.  He was 2009 Broward Runner of the Year and currently running for FAU.  Vidal and three others: Shelby & Shannon Turner and Alejandro Ley, toed the line. (This is a snapshot of their Current Fitness Level)  The result were as follow: Michael Vidal, 17,  6:11(New coarse Record), Alejandro Ley, 21, 8:11, Shannon Turner, 11, 9:14, Shelby Turner, 15, 9:29!

Congratulations to our First, 3, MVP's after 5 weeks of training!  On our females side, Natalie Diaz, the confident, focused, hardworking young lady, recorded our fastest opening 400m and has held her position ever since!  A clear indication of deep mental strength.  Madison Butler, slightly behind our leader, is slowly understanding her strength and talent and is working just as hard and is slowly chipping away!  Elizabeth Baltazar, quietly, a very hardworker, has currently secured her third place position.  Has demonstrated the ability to move into the front at her discretion!

On the Boys side, WoW!  This was a tight call!  Adam Butler opened up the season with the fastest 400m and has also held his position very sturdy!  He demonstrates desire to improve, he love to compete, and has natural talent know doubt!  David Diaz, is quickly moving in!  In the last two weeks, David came just one second away from Adam!  David is light on the feet, fast and can tap into his "will"!  Quietly monitoring right behind the top two is Matthew Figueroa!  He too has moved quickly up to the front, demonstrating fluidness, quickness and the will to go through pain.  He too has the potential to move into the point when he decides too!

After five weeks of training, results tend to start talking!  What is it with the Moraga Family?  And the Padrons?  Are they going to bed earlier?  Are they eating the right foods?  Are they just simply well rested and hydrated?  What ever the question may be CONGRATULATIONS TO THIS WEEK #5 MOST IMPROVED!

Amelia Earhart Park: It's Thurs and the Athletes sit around Coach O and listen to an introduction to strategizing for our 3rd, 400m, out and back time trial!  The concept "spread the jelly evenly" was our first concept!  It basically means go out your first 200m in your hardest, controlled pace and return the next 200m, with the same time or one second faster aka: Negative Split!
Kids are starting to understand!  Every kid is giving their all, which demonstrates desire, allow a few more weeks for them to understand how to distribute their energy mentally and physically & improvement will be substantial! Parent's can help by showing only positive re-enforcement, it is hard to teach the body how to tap into the "will"!

Sprinters, Middle Distance and Distance Runners like Baseball, Football & Basketball Players have many things in common!  Each need to cross train, each need speed, drive, endurance, flexibility, explosion, agility,  fight...and it does not end...soon after, athletes of all SPORTS together focus on the same recovery process: Cooldown, Stretching, Icing, Massages, Soaking, Nutrition, Passive & Active Recover methods to Repair the Trained Body or System AND to prepare it for the following day... TOP ATHLETES TRAIN WITH TOP ATHLETES OVER THE SUMMER, REGARDLESS OF THEIR SPORT...It's ALL ABOUT BEING FIT, WELL CONDITIONED, STRONG & FLEXIBLE FIRST THEN DO YOUR SPORT!  ALL SPORTS RECOMMENDED!

With two weeks away from our Race, it was time to measure and we did with the 400m!  Our goal as a team was for each individual to focus on themselves, despite the differences in gender, age, skill and ability.  We asked for each kid to give us their best!  And they did!  About 7 mins later, the question was asked out loud, "who's ready for another repetition?"  Not one kid raised their hand, but each had a nice smile on their face!  They gave it "their all"!

It was 7:37PM, 5/27/10, when Coach Odermatt looked down on his watch and realized that work had surpassed our day's   session!  Every Coach's Dream!  However, not one athlete realized this! A great indication the exercises' stress are just right dosages because they are having FUN!  In fact, they are acquiring multiple benefits, simultaneously!  Major Physiological Benefits to running hills: Technique, Efficiency & Muscle Fiber Recruitment!  But, Odermatt believes that these benefits are secondary to what this training really does to the athlete's Psychological Development and Benefits!  Their feelings, as an individual, are of ONLY: Accomplishment, Confidence, and Greater Self Esteem!  Every Parent's Dream for their Kids!  Every hill repetition is a new challenge, a new dimension in our ability to handle the odds against us!  Everytime kids "handle" this odd, MENTAL TOUGHNESS results!  These benefits immediately transcend into other areas of the Athletes life, CTFC pushes to to EDUCATION..."STUDENT-ATHLETE"!

Congratulations to our newest founding members!  Hannah Moraga, Danielle Linares, Olivia Diaz, Madison Butler & Kirsten Padron.  On the Boys side, Chris Cabrera, Damon Padron, Kevin Moraga, Jason Linares & Adam Butler!  PICTURES HERE!
